The Relational Leader
Programme Overview

The Relational Leader incorporates the notion that leaders are required to relate to their team,
to their peers. It builds upon MOE’s initiative of Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL), to provide platforms for student leaders to become better in what they do.

The key to this programme is in the ability to communicate well with others, and thus, through
basic facilitation skills, participants are given a greater insight on the power of effective commu-
nication through self and social awareness. They will also need a sufficient amount of knowledge and practical experience to manage themselves as an individual and the relationships that they have with others.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the workshop, participants will experience the following:

  1. Understand their characters based on tried and tested methods.
  2. Learn about the various communications / leadership / followership styles that each
    individual possess.
  3. Learn how to facilitate / communicate effectively with one another.
  4. Gain practical experience in communicating the roles and responsibilities to others.

BRIEF SUMMARY

Character Profiling / Learning Styles
Participants will gain a deeper insight into what their characters are like, as opposed to their peers.
They learn to understand that each person is unique, and therefore, how they communicate with one another requires skill, flexibility and adaptability.

Basic Facilitation Skills
Participants will be equipped with the know-how of facilitation: what kind of questions to ask, how to draw responses from participants, where to conduct these facilitation sessions to draw out the best responses, how to empower others, etc... Participants will definitely get a chance to practice their new found facilitation skills and gain feedback from their peers.

The Curse of the Caterpillar / The Quest
Participants will participate in games / challenges that will allow them to practice their knowledge gained on relating to one another. This allows student leaders to test themselves physically, mentally and emotionally, and look beyond what they have learnt as just theoretical lessons, but practical experiences that will benefit them in the long run.
